Kai Sonomura (園村 海 Sonomura Kai) is the red Beatranger, known as Red Beat, and a communications technician. He wields power gained from Fire Resonance.
History[]
Formation of Beatranger[]
Kai is the technician monitoring the camera and audio feeds of the team involved in the discovery incident, including Kanae's, and has seen both the resonance device and Meloquarz. Because of that, he is invited to join the newly-forming Beatranger team. Having been a communications technician his entire career, he is somewhat apprehensive about suddenly being moved into a field team. It is determined that he has undergone the proper training to be a field operative, however, and despite his apprehension, Kai accepts. He is matched up with Fire Resonance, becoming Red Beat. He feels uneasy using Fire Resonance, but figures it's just something he needed to get used to.
Personality[]
Kai is a lighthearted and very intelligent person. He worries a lot about those around him and has an immense desire to keep them safe. His stress response is flight rather than fight, which goes hand-in-hand with one of his duties as a communications technician, which is to get his team out of dangerous situations fast. He is somewhat okay under pressure, and is mostly able to keep himself going in a bad situation. Kai identifies as aromantic.

Red Beat[]
As Red Beat, Kai has enhanced strength, a protective suit, and resistance to most hostile resonance, as well as the ability to burn through objects like a cutting torch. Unlike the other Beatrangers, however, Kai cannot summon a personal weapon. This is due to problems with Fire Resonance.
